Joseph Raphael Mac Micking, a prominent American businessman of Spanish descent, purchased five farms and adjacent lands at the mouth of the Guadiaro River, along the Atlantic coast. The founder of Sotogrande's acquisitions were intended to create an exclusive residential complex with expensive properties, security, and strict privacy. The project was launched in 1962.
