The city is divided into three parts: Benalmadena Pueblo is a classic Andalusian district with whitewashed houses, narrow streets, churches and an ever-present central square. Arroyo de la Miel is located around the railway station and is the administrative centre with all services; the majority of the city's residents live here. It was founded in the 18th century by the Italian Felix Solesio, who bought several plots of land to build paper factories. The main attraction of the resort is the Tivoli World amusement park. There are entertainment options for both children and adults, and show programmes are organised every evening. Benalmadena Costa stretches for 20 kilometres along the seashore – this is a tourist area. The creator of Colomares, practicing physician Esteban Martín, spent seven years in his spare time with two assistants creating a grand 
monument to the legendary Christopher Columbus. The base consists of three caravels that set out on the voyage: the Santa Maria, the Niña, and the Pinta. Martín's creation entered the Guinness Book of World Records in two categories: as the largest monument to Columbus, and the world's smallest church, Santa Isabel de Ungría, at 1.96 square meters, also received an award.
Benalmádena is home to the Stupa of Enlightenment, a functioning Buddhist temple—the largest in Europe. It is the 17th and final stupa built by the architect Rinpoche Lopon Tsechu.
A five and a half kilometer cable car connects the city center with the highest point of Mount Calamorro (771 meters above sea level), at the top of which there is a nursery for birds of prey, the "Eagle Garden" - where you can see eagles, vultures, eagle owls, peregrine falcons, and perform shows with their participation. The Butterfly Park is home to 1,500 species from all over the world in a tropical climate created for them, on an area of about 2,000 square meters. The Sea Life Marine Life Center will introduce you to the exotic inhabitants of the seas and oceans. Popular with locals and tourists, "La Paloma" Park attracts with its dense greenery, modern playgrounds, a lake with pelicans, and a collection of more than 450 species of cacti.
The Puerto Marina sports port boasts a convenient marina, where vessels from around the world dock. Restaurants, bars, and shopping and entertainment complexes are built on platforms surrounded by water, while three artificial islands house Maghreb-style hotels.
Benalmádena's nightlife is noisy and vibrant, typical Spanish. Numerous entertainment venues, clubs, and discos open their doors in various parts of the city. One of the centers of this vibrant nightlife is the Plaza de la Sun et de la Mar, also known as the 24-hour Plaza, because life there is in full swing, regardless of time.
